St Mary's Bell Ringers

Bells were hung in the tower back in the first half of the 1600s. In 1971 one of the four original bells was recast, and two new bells added to augment the ring to the current six bells. The heaviest bell is 10½ cwt.

The band of ringers consists of equal numbers of men and women evenly spread between the ages of 9 and 80+. Though we are largely inexperienced, we’re enthusiastic and making progress in the art of change ringing.  We ring at nine o’clock for half an hour prior to the Parish Communion service on Sunday mornings. We also ring for some Sunday evening services as well as weddings and funerals when requested.

We practice on Tuesday evenings between half seven and nine o’clock. Anyone interested in finding out more or in joining the band are welcome, even encouraged, to come along and see us any Tuesday.
